Glossary & Do-Not-Translate

Keep brand names and key terms consistent across all translations.

Term translations (Glossary)

The glossary lets you define how specific terms should be translated in each language. This is ideal for:

Adding glossary terms

  1. Go to Glossary in the sidebar.
  2. Make sure you're on the Term Translations tab.
  3. Enter the source term (in your store's primary language).
  4. Select the target language.
  5. Enter the desired translation.
  6. Optionally toggle case sensitive if the match should be exact-case.
  7. Click Add.

The AI will use your glossary terms when translating, ensuring they always appear exactly as you've defined them.

Available on every plan: Glossary and do-not-translate entries are unlimited.

Do-Not-Translate (DNT) terms

Some terms should never be translated — they should appear in the original language everywhere. Common examples:

Adding DNT terms

  1. Go to Glossary in the sidebar.
  2. Switch to the Do Not Translate tab.
  3. Type the term and click Add.

DNT terms apply globally across all target languages. The AI will preserve these terms exactly as-is in every translation.

Learned from your store

During a full sync, Lingomatic's terminology scout compares repeated source phrases with translations already published or imported from Shopify. High-confidence decisions appear in Learned from your store, grouped by term and language.

Use the filters to review learned terms. You can approve a suggestion into the glossary or do-not-translate list, ignore a suggestion, or remove a learned term. Active learned terms guide future translations even before you approve them.

Metafield namespaces

On the Do Not Translate tab, namespace rules let you exclude all metafields owned by an app or data source. Known review and page-builder namespaces are skipped by default; you can explicitly include any default or exclude another namespace. See Content Types for the default list.
