Understanding Credits

What a credit buys, what is free, and how Lingomatic prevents surprise charges.

How does billing work?

1 credit = 1 word of Standard translation. Standard runs one translation pass using your brand voice, glossary, do-not-translate list, per-language register, and terms learned from your store.

Premium is available on Growth and Pro. It adds an independent editing pass to eligible text of 50 words or more and costs 1.5 credits per word on that text. Short strings, email templates, metafields, and images stay outside the Premium multiplier. On Pro, Premium also includes a source check of sentences flagged by the editor.

Image translation on Growth and Pro costs 750 credits per rendered theme image per language. Images with no translatable text cost 0 credits.

Monthly allowance

Each plan includes monthly credits that reset at the start of your billing period:

What costs 0 credits?

Unchanged content found during a re-sync.
Duplicate content when Lingomatic can reuse an existing translation.
Existing Shopify translations imported during sync, including translations created with Translate & Adapt.
Manual editing and publishing of translations you already have.

Go to Billing in the sidebar to see:

Your current credit balance
Monthly usage progress bar
Next renewal date
Full usage history with per-transaction details

Running out of credits

If you run out of credits mid-translation, the remaining translations are paused. You'll see a banner with options to:

Retry — Once you have more credits (from a purchase or monthly renewal).
Cancel — Remove the paused translation jobs.

Buying extra credits

Go to Billing → Buy More Credits to purchase a 20,000, 50,000, 150,000, or 500,000-credit pack. Purchased credits never expire.

How source words are counted

Credit estimates start with the translatable words in your source content. HTML tags, Liquid template code, URLs, and email addresses are excluded.

For most languages, words are separated by spaces and counted normally.
For Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, each character counts as one word.
Exceptionally long strings without spaces (e.g. concatenated text) may be counted as multiple words based on character length.
Email templates use the Standard rate: 1 credit per source word.

No surprise billing

You see the exact credit estimate before every translation. Lingomatic does not charge overages or upgrade your plan automatically. If your balance is too low, work pauses instead. Purchased credits never expire. Draft and archived products are not synced at all, so they never consume credits or product slots.
