Editing Translations

Use the side-by-side editor to review, refine, and publish translations.

Opening the editor

  1. Go to Translations and select a content type.
  2. Click on any item (product, page, collection, etc.) to open the editor.

The editor layout

The editor shows your content in a side-by-side view:

At the top you'll find:

Translating content

You have two options:

Standard and Premium quality

Standard uses your brand voice, glossary, do-not-translate list, per-language register, and terms learned from your store in one translation pass. On Growth and Pro, Premium adds an independent editor to eligible text of at least 50 words. Pro also checks editor-flagged sentences against the source. Short strings, email templates, metafields, and images remain at the Standard text rate.

Editing translations manually

Click on any translated field to edit it directly. This is useful for:

A manual edit is marked as reviewed, and the version it replaced is filed in history. Reviewed translations survive re-syncing: when Lingomatic clears translations whose source content has moved on, it clears unpublished machine drafts only — never your edits, never anything already published.

The exception is a change to the source text of a field you edited. That makes your translation genuinely out of date, so it is translated again on the next run — and the field then says so, with your wording one click away in history. Restore it, or keep the new one. See Your translations are yours.

Re-translating

Not happy with a translation? On Growth and Pro plans, you can re-translate individual fields. Click the options menu on any field and select "Re-translate".

Translation history & revert

Every translation is versioned, on every plan. From any field you can:

A version you wrote yourself is never aged out of history by later re-translations. The Translation Log — browsing every version across your whole store in one place — is a Growth and Pro feature; the history on an individual field is not.

Publishing to Shopify

When you're satisfied with the translations, click Publish to Shopify. This pushes all translations for the current language to your live Shopify store. Translations are published field-by-field, so partially translated items can still be published.

Theme images

When image translation is enabled for your store, Growth and Pro can translate theme images with shopper-visible text into each language. A rendered image stays in Needs approval until you approve it in the editor; it is never auto-published before approval.

Tip: Set up your glossary before doing bulk translations. The AI will use your glossary terms automatically, saving you manual edits later.
